A PRAYER FOR OVERCOMING SIN

O God of love, I thank You for this time of prayer. O Lord, I want to live a holy life and desire to do what is acceptable to You. But in this life of temptations, I yield to temptations and do what I think I ought not to do. I see and do what I ought not to do or see. I fail and then feel miserable. Satan the accuser keeps accusing me pointing to my failures. I feel shattered. I know that there is good redemption in You. I regret my misdeeds and sins. Give the strength in my spirit to overcome temptation and grant me confidence in the soul, and the comfort of the Holy Spirit. David who had sinned pleaded for restoration of the Holy Spirit. Similarly, I too plead for restoration of the Spirit in me. Even though I am reminded that it is sin that I do or see or speak, I submit to my lusts and then I feel sad for it. O Jesus Christ, have mercy on me. You said: “Sin no more” (John 5:14). Help me to live a sinless life. Like David who said, “For by You I can run against a troop, by my God I can leap over a wall.” (Psalm 18:29), let me also overcome these obstacles of temptations with Your help. O You listen to the words of my mouth. Let me not sin with my lips. Let me not utter a lie or a vain word. Guard me. Help me to fill my heart with Your words and with Your love. Let others know about the love of Christ through my words and deeds. Fill my heart to be full of the love of Christ and His words so that I might keep praising and thanking the Lord for all that He has done to me. I praise and thank You, knowing that You would do that. In the name of Jesus Christ, I plead, O Father. Amen.
